Matchday 4 of the DBL is over, and among the results is probably the biggest surprise of the season so far! In the Bavarian derby, the league leaders (Guggenberger Legionäre Regensburg) faced the bottom team (München-Haar Disciples). Game 1 between the two teams already took place on Friday afternoon and ended 14–3 in favor of the favorites from Regensburg. However, the Haar Disciples were able to get their revenge in the return game on Sunday afternoon in the Munich suburbs.

Bottom Team Claims First Win of the Season Against the Leaders
The Haar Disciples got off to a strong start in their second game of the matchday, taking a 1–0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to an RBI single by Aodhan Queen. After that, Regensburg’s starting pitcher Leeroy Tavares shut things down, and in the 6th and 7th innings the visitors from the Upper Palatinate each scored a run to turn the game around.
In the bottom of the 8th inning, the home team struck back, with Quentin Kramer tying the game at 2–2. With that score, the game moved into the decisive final inning. The Legionäre nearly scored a third run in the top half thanks to a double by Thomas Kinskofer, but relief pitcher Daniel Wolf managed to escape the jam. In the Disciples’ final at-bat, Aodhan Queen decided the game with another RBI single, securing the win for Haar.
What’s next for both teams:
For the Disciples, this is a hugely important first win of the season and a strong statement to their competitors. Despite remaining at the bottom of the table for now, they will have gained plenty of confidence heading into the upcoming derby against the Gauting Indians.
For the Guggenberger Legionäre, the loss is painful, as they now have to share first place with the Heidenheim Heideköpfe. As the season progresses, it remains to be seen whether this defeat will come back to haunt them, as we are likely to witness a tight and exciting race for the interleague spots. Next weekend, the runners-up will play away against the Stuttgart Reds, where they will most likely be eager to make up for this loss.
