Gigantes del Cibao Part Ways with Manager José Léger Amid Technical Staff Reorganization

José Leger during his time as manager of Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican Winter League

The Gigantes del Cibao have officially announced the departure of manager José Leger as part of a broader reorganization of the team’s technical staff during the ongoing All Against All round of the Dominican Winter League.

The decision comes after a difficult 0–3 start to the Round Robin phase, where Gigantes currently sit in last place with 15 games still remaining. With postseason qualification still mathematically possible, the organization is making structural changes in an effort to reverse its early struggles and remain competitive in the championship race.

Management Statement and Appreciation for Leger

The announcement was made by general manager Jaylon Pimentel, who expressed gratitude toward Léger for his professionalism and commitment since joining the organization at the beginning of preseason preparations in September.

“We recognize the dedication and seriousness with which José carried out his role from day one. We wish him the best of success in the challenges that lie ahead,” said Pimentel.

Leger’s tenure included the full preparation cycle leading into the season, and the franchise emphasized that the move was strategic rather than personal, driven by the team’s current competitive needs.

Interim Leadership Ahead of Key Matchup

For Wednesday’s matchup against Leones del Escogido, scheduled to take place at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal, the Gigantes will be led on an interim basis by Jefry Sierra.

The organization confirmed that Sierra will oversee on-field operations while management continues to evaluate longer-term adjustments to the coaching structure during the All Against All phase.

Additional Coaching Changes Announced

In addition to Leger’s departure, the team also announced that Felipe Rojas has stepped down from his role as assistant coach. Beginning with the next game, Kremlin Martínez will assume those responsibilities as part of the revamped technical staff.

Focus on Performance Improvement

Despite the challenging start, Gigantes del Cibao reiterated their determination to improve collective performance and stay in contention as the Round Robin progresses. With a significant number of games still to be played, the franchise believes the changes can help spark a turnaround and keep postseason hopes alive.

As the Dominican Winter League continues its most decisive phase, all eyes will be on how Gigantes respond on the field following these leadership adjustments.
