What is Division 1 Baseball?

Division 1 Baseball has crowned French champions since 1926, two years after the FFBS itself was founded. It remains the highest level of organised baseball in the country, blending home-grown talent developed through France’s national training centres with experienced imports. The division operates a promotion and relegation system with Division 2: the last-placed D1 club is relegated, while the D2 champion is promoted in its place.

Baseball has been played in France since the late 19th century, and while it remains a minor sport compared to football or rugby, it has a long, structured history, the game is generally credited to have taken its modern form in the United States in the mid-1800s, evolving from older bat-and-ball games played in Europe.
