The Czech Baseball Extraliga resumed following the international break with four series that produced very different storylines.
Kotlářka Praha and Eagles Praha both completed three-game sweeps to strengthen their positions in the standings. League-leading Hroši Brno won their series against Sokol Hluboká but failed to complete the sweep, while Hluboká’s victory in the finale helped the club consolidate fourth place.
The series between Draci Brno and Arrows Ostrava was disrupted by severe weather. One game was suspended with the score tied and will have to be completed at a later date.
Kotlářka Sweep Nuclears to Hold Second Place
Třebíč Nuclears entered their series against Kotlářka Praha still firmly involved in the race for a playoff berth. Every victory would have improved their chances of reaching the postseason, but the Prague club controlled the weekend and won all three games.
Kotlářka opened the series with a 5–2 victory behind an outstanding start from David Křeček. The right-hander delivered seven scoreless innings and recorded 10 strikeouts, preventing the Nuclears from establishing any offensive rhythm.
The visitors also received significant production from the middle of their batting order. Denis Šmiřák, Martin Červenka and Koki Ugusa each hit a home run as Kotlářka built a comfortable advantage.
Třebíč finally scored against the Kotlářka bullpen late in the game, but the rally only reduced the final margin to three runs.
Marek Chlup’s Grand Slam Decides Extra-Inning Battle
The second game was Třebíč’s best opportunity to claim a victory.
After falling behind 6–1, the Nuclears capitalized on several defensive mistakes by Kotlářka and completed an impressive comeback to move ahead 8–6. Their lead did not last, however, as Kotlářka scored twice in the sixth inning to tie the game.
Třebíč placed runners in scoring position on several occasions during the later innings but repeatedly failed to deliver the decisive hit. The game eventually moved into extra innings, where Marek Chlup produced the defining moment.
With the bases loaded, Chlup launched a grand slam that gave Kotlářka a four-run advantage. The Nuclears were unable to respond in the bottom half, allowing the visitors to secure a dramatic 12–8 win.
Eight-Run Surge Completes the Sweep
Martin Červenka opened the scoring in the series finale by hitting his 16th home run of the season in the first inning.
The Nuclears answered through Marek Krejčiřík, whose solo home run tied the game. Třebíč later moved ahead 2–1 in the sixth inning when a runner scored on a wild pitch.
Kotlářka completely changed the game during the seventh and eighth innings.
Sustained offensive pressure forced Třebíč to remove starting pitcher Maxim Samson. Reliever Tomáš Venhoda entered but was unable to record an out, leading the Nuclears to call on Jose Guevara.
The pitching changes could not stop Kotlářka’s momentum. The Prague club scored eight runs across two innings and turned a one-run deficit into a commanding lead.
Kotlářka completed the sweep with a 9–4 victory and remained second in the Extraliga standings. The three defeats represented a major setback for Třebíč’s playoff ambitions.
Weather Disrupts Draci Brno–Arrows Ostrava Series
Weather became a major factor in the series between Draci Brno and Arrows Ostrava.
Friday’s game in Ostrava was stopped in the third inning after a summer storm made it impossible to continue. The score was tied 3–3 when play was suspended, and the contest will be completed on a rescheduled date.
Draci Rally Late to Win 8–6
The second game featured immediate offense from both clubs.
Arrows scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but Draci responded with three of their own in the bottom half. Ostrava regained the lead in the second before Matyáš Kozel extended the advantage to 6–4 with a home run in the fourth.
The turning point came in the bottom of the seventh inning.
With Jan Kozel pitching for Ostrava, Matias Takeda and Šimon Klacl delivered run-producing hits that brought home three runs and helped Draci move ahead 8–6.
Relievers Vojtěch Ventruba and Tomáš Ondra protected the lead over the final two innings, completing the comeback victory for the Brno club.
Five-Run Sixth Inning Carries Arrows
Sunday’s game followed the opposite pattern, with Arrows producing the decisive late rally.
New Draci acquisition Kender Villegas made his debut on the mound and limited Ostrava to one run over five innings. The only damage against him came from another newcomer, Luke Masiuk.
Draci scored four runs against Arrows starter Matyáš Pjontka and carried a 4–1 lead into the sixth inning.
The game changed after Filip Hedl entered to pitch for Brno. Arrows sent 11 batters to the plate during the inning and continued to score even after Draci made another pitching change.
Ostrava collected five runs in the frame and moved in front 6–4.
Vít Robenek, making his Extraliga debut, and Šimon Všetečka combined to protect the advantage and close out the victory.
After the game, Draci representative Jakub Winkler said his team had performed well through five innings but then issued too many free passes, committed defensive mistakes and failed to record a hit during the second half of the contest. Winkler also revealed that he was dealing with a wrist injury.
With the opening game still unfinished, the series remains officially unresolved.
Hroši Win Series, but Sokol Hluboká Take Important Finale
Hroši Brno began the weekend as the leading team in the Extraliga standings and lived up to that position during the opening two games against Sokol Hluboká.
However, the South Bohemian club prevented a sweep by winning the unusual eight-inning series finale.
Strong Start and Dominant Pitching Lead Hroši
Hroši scored five runs over the opening two innings of Game 1 and never surrendered control.
Ryan Johnson delivered the biggest offensive blow with a three-run home run. Starting pitcher Jesus Castillo provided seven strong innings, allowing only two runs while striking out nine batters.
Matthew Malconian handled the remaining innings as Hroši completed a 7–2 victory.
Four Home Runs Power Brno to 16–9 Win
The second game became a high-scoring contest dominated by Hroši’s power hitters.
Brno hit four home runs on the way to a 16–9 victory. Antonio Dominguez, one of the club’s newest additions, was the standout performer. He finished with four hits and drove in five runs.
Philip Monteith led the Hluboká offense with four hits of his own, once again demonstrating why he has been one of Sokol’s most productive hitters this season.
Galindo Shuts Down League Leaders
The third game was moved to Monday and began earlier than originally planned because of problems with the stadium lighting. As a result, the contest was limited to eight innings.
Hroši immediately took a 1–0 lead when Dominguez homered in the top of the first.
Hluboká answered decisively against Brno starter Lukáš Pacal. Michal Zelenka drove in the tying run before Monteith hit a three-run home run that put Sokol ahead 4–1.
One inning later, Martin Mužík hit his third home run of the season to extend the advantage to four runs.
Starting pitcher Cristian Galindo protected the lead with one of the best performances of the round. He held the league leaders scoreless after the opening inning and collected nine strikeouts.
Hluboká added three more runs in the eighth. Zelenka put the ball in play, and a defensive error allowed the play to continue until he crossed home plate himself.
Johnson hit a solo home run in the bottom half, but it only reduced the final deficit as Hluboká completed an 8–2 victory.
The result gave Sokol an important win against the league leaders and strengthened the club’s hold on fourth place.
Eagles Dominate Prague Derby and Sweep SaBaT
The final series of the round featured two Prague clubs positioned in the lower half of the standings.
Eagles Praha produced the stronger weekend from beginning to end, winning all three games against SaBaT and moving closer to the top four.
Zavadil Throws Complete Game in Opener
Eagles made an immediate statement with an 11–1 victory in seven innings.
Tadeáš Zavadil delivered a complete-game performance and recorded six strikeouts. With their starting pitcher in control, the Eagles offense steadily increased the lead until the game ended early because of the mercy rule.
Eagles Pitching Controls Game 2
The Eagles pitching staff remained dominant in the second game.
Koya Uemura and new signing Caleb Freeman combined to hold SaBaT to one run. Jan Mulač led the offense with three hits, while Ryker Galaska added a home run.
Eagles won 6–1, guaranteeing themselves the series victory before the final game.
Late Offense Secures the Sweep
The series moved to SaBaT’s home field in Trója on Sunday, where the hosts made the better start.
Mário Gottschall drove in two runs in the third inning to give SaBaT the early advantage. Eagles responded in the fourth with a five-run rally that completely reversed the score.
Eagles starter Maxim Mrakovcic maintained the lead until the sixth inning, when he allowed the first three batters to reach base. Vasko Kolev entered from the bullpen but was unable to stop the rally immediately.
SaBaT also benefited from a defensive error and scored enough runs to tie the game at 5–5.
The contest was decided over the final two innings. Eagles scored three times, while SaBaT managed only one additional run.
The 8–6 victory completed a 3–0 series sweep for Eagles Praha. The result moved the club into fifth place, only one victory behind fourth-placed Sokol Hluboká.
Twelve Games Scheduled for Next Extraliga Round
The Extraliga continues next weekend with a full schedule of 12 games.
The headline matchup will feature second-placed Kotlářka Praha against fourth-placed Sokol Hluboká, with both clubs looking to strengthen their postseason positions.
SaBaT’s series against Třebíč Nuclears will also carry major consequences. The Prague club must avoid a series defeat to preserve its mathematical chance of reaching the playoffs. Losing the series would officially eliminate SaBaT from direct postseason contention and send the team toward the relegation playoff stage.
