The Hamburg Stealers will host the Untouchables Paderborn this coming Saturday evening (7 p.m.) and Sunday midday (1 p.m.) (both on YouTube/Stealers TV). The matchup promises plenty of excitement, as only one spot separates the two teams in the standings. The Hamburg Stealers are currently in 2nd place in the DBL North Division, making them the direct pursuers of the first-place Bonn Capitals. So far, the Stealers have won four of their six games, while the Capitals remain undefeated with the same number of games played. However, the Untouchables from Paderborn are also in contention at the top of the table—and they could underline that this weekend. They currently sit in 3rd place with an even win-loss record, making them, in a sense, the chaser of the chaser.
Historic Game for the Stealers
The Hamburg Stealers are the second team this season to reach their 1,000th Bundesliga game—and, as luck would have it, they will do so against the Untouchables Paderborn, who already reached that milestone on opening day against the Cologne Cardinals.
The Stealers can look back on a long Bundesliga history. They were promoted to the Bundesliga in 1991. In 2000, they won their first and only German championship—then still under the name “Lokstedt Stealers,” under which they were founded in 1985. In 2002, they were relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga but returned to the top division after just one season, where they have competed continuously ever since.
After the Mannheim Tornados, Guggenberger Legionäre Regensburg, Mainz Athletics, Bonn Capitals, and Untouchables Paderborn, the Hamburg Stealers are now the sixth team to reach the milestone of 1,000 games in Germany’s top baseball league.
