The final weekend of the 2026 Deutsche Baseball Liga Interleague Round will determine the first six positions in the playoff seeding, with the Bonn Capitals leading a tightly contested race involving Regensburg, Hamburg, Heidenheim and Paderborn.
The 2026 Deutsche Baseball Liga enters a decisive weekend on August 1 and 2, with almost every position in the Interleague standings still open to change.
Only the Mainz Athletics are locked into their final position. Mainz will finish sixth, but the other five Interleague teams still have something significant at stake as they complete their final two games before the DBL playoffs.
The first-place Bonn Capitals travel to the Heidenheim Heideköpfe knowing that one victory will secure the No. 1 playoff seed. Behind Bonn, the Guggenberger Legionäre Regensburg remain mathematically alive in the race for first place, while the Hamburg Stealers, Heidenheim and Untouchables Paderborn are competing to improve their quarterfinal matchups.
DBL Interleague standings before the final weekend

Bonn enters the weekend with a two-game advantage over Regensburg and a three-game lead over Hamburg and Heidenheim. Paderborn sits five games behind the Capitals but can still move up from fifth place if several results fall in its favor.
Bonn Capitals need one win to secure the top seed
The simplest playoff scenario belongs to Bonn.
With a 13-5 record, the Capitals need to win only one of their two games in Heidenheim to guarantee first place in the Interleague standings. The series begins Saturday, August 1, at 18:00 local time before concluding Sunday at 13:00.
Bonn strengthened its position during the previous round by recording consecutive shutouts against Mainz. The Capitals won the opening game 9-0 and followed with a 7-0 victory, improving to 13-5 while preventing the Athletics from scoring across the two-game set.
That sweep placed Bonn in complete control of its playoff destination. A victory in Heidenheim would not only clinch the No. 1 seed but also guarantee home-field advantage against the eighth-seeded wildcard qualifier in the quarterfinals.
Even if the Capitals lose both games, they cannot finish lower than second. However, a sweep by Heidenheim would leave Bonn vulnerable to Regensburg in the race for first place.
Regensburg must sweep Paderborn and receive help
The Guggenberger Legionäre enter the final weekend at 11-7, two games behind Bonn.
Regensburg hosts the Untouchables Paderborn on Saturday at 19:00 and Sunday at 14:00. To preserve any realistic opportunity of overtaking the Capitals, the Legionäre must win both games while hoping Heidenheim completes a two-game sweep against Bonn.
A split would eliminate Regensburg from the race for first place and could also place the current second seed under pressure from Hamburg or Heidenheim.
The Legionäre split their previous series against Hamburg. Regensburg won the opening game 7-5, but the Stealers responded with a 5-1 victory in the second contest. Hamburg scored five runs in the sixth inning of that game before weather forced an early conclusion, with the result becoming official after six completed innings.
That split left Regensburg at 11-7 and prevented the Legionäre from entering the final weekend level with Bonn.
Hamburg Stealers target second place against Mainz
Hamburg may have the most favorable matchup among the teams competing for a top-four seed.
The Stealers visit the last-place Mainz Athletics for games Saturday at 19:00 and Sunday at 12:00. Hamburg begins the series at 10-8, level with Heidenheim but listed one position higher in the standings.
Two victories would move the Stealers to 12-8. That would give Hamburg a chance to finish second if Regensburg loses both games to Paderborn. A split could still protect third place, depending on the results in Heidenheim and Regensburg.
Mainz has already been confirmed in sixth place with a 2-16 record, but the Athletics can still influence the playoff bracket. A Mainz victory would complicate Hamburg’s pursuit of the second seed and could allow Heidenheim or Paderborn to move ahead of the Stealers.
The Athletics will also be trying to recover offensively after being held scoreless in both games of their previous series in Bonn.
Heidenheim can climb with a home sweep
The Heidenheim Heideköpfe face the most difficult assignment of the weekend but also have an opportunity to create the largest change near the top of the table.
Heidenheim enters at 10-8 and hosts first-place Bonn twice. A two-game sweep would improve the Heideköpfe to 12-8 while preventing the Capitals from clinching first place through their own results.
Depending on the outcomes in Regensburg and Mainz, Heidenheim could move as high as second. A pair of defeats, however, would leave the club vulnerable to dropping behind Paderborn.
The Heideköpfe split their most recent series against the Untouchables. Paderborn won the first game 4-3, but Heidenheim responded with a 9-7 victory the following day.
That result kept Heidenheim level with Hamburg and maintained the possibility of securing a top-three position during the final weekend.
Paderborn retains an outside chance of reaching third
Paderborn starts the weekend in fifth place at 8-10, but its final position remains far from settled.
The Untouchables can finish 10-10 by sweeping Regensburg. Under the right combination of results and applicable tiebreakers, that record could lift Paderborn as high as third place. For that scenario to become possible, both Hamburg and Heidenheim would need to lose their remaining games.
More realistically, Paderborn is attempting to defend fifth place while reducing the gap to the teams directly above it. The Untouchables have already demonstrated that they can compete with leading opposition, having defeated Heidenheim 4-3 before narrowly losing the second game of that series 9-7.
A strong weekend in Regensburg would give Paderborn momentum before the quarterfinals and could produce a more favorable first-round opponent.
Why the final DBL playoff seedings matter
The final Interleague standings directly determine seeds one through six in the 2026 DBL playoffs. The remaining two quarterfinal positions will be awarded to the winners of the North and South Wildcard Races.
The quarterfinal matchups are arranged according to seeding:

- No. 2 plays No. 7
- No. 3 plays No. 6
- No. 4 plays No. 5
Every playoff round is played as a best-of-five series. The higher-seeded team receives home-field rights for Games 1, 2 and, when necessary, Game 5. That makes the difference between finishing second, third or fourth especially important, as higher placement provides both a theoretically lower-seeded opponent and additional home games.
The quarterfinals are scheduled to begin on August 15 following a break connected to the U23 European Championship B-Pool tournament in Paderborn. The semifinals are due to start on August 29, with the German championship series opening on September 12.
