Bonn Crowned Northern Champions

The Bonn Capitals secured first place in the regular season standings of the northern division of the DBL last Sunday. As a result, they have avoided a decisive showdown for first place against the second-placed Hamburg Stealers on the final weekend and clinched the top spot ahead of schedule.

Two Wins Seal the Championship

Over the weekend, the Capitals won both of their games against the Dortmund Wanderers. Due to the lopsided scores, both contests ended early under the mercy rule. Bonn won Saturday’s game 13–3 and followed it up with a 19–4 victory on Sunday.

In Game 1, Bonn import player McCoy Pearce delivered an outstanding offensive performance. He recorded three hits, including a grand slam home run, and drove in six runs. The Capitals jumped out to a 4–0 lead in the first inning and, behind starting pitcher Niklas Rimmel, kept Dortmund scoreless through four innings. Although the Wanderers managed to pull within one run, Pearce’s aforementioned grand slam put the game out of reach and Bonn never looked back.

In Game 2, the Capitals opened with a spectacular seven-run inning, providing new signing and starting pitcher Connor Prins with solid run support. The Dutch right-hander did not allow a single baserunner over three innings, while Bonn’s offense extended the lead to 11–0. The Dortmund Wanderers finally got on the board in the fourth inning, cutting the deficit to 11–4. However, the Capitals repeated their seven-run outburst from the opening frame and eventually capped off the scoring in the sixth inning with an RBI double by Eric Brenk, sealing the 19–4 victory.

Chasers Lose Twice

Bonn’s early division title was also aided by the Hamburg Stealers’ pair of defeats to the Untouchables Paderborn (2–4 and 4–5). Hamburg needed at least one victory to postpone the decision by another week and set up a direct showdown with the Capitals for first place.
