As of August 24, 2026, the Savigny-sur-Orge Lions sit alone in first place at 18-8. The Rouen Huskies and Montpellier Barracudas are one game behind at 17-9, while the La Rochelle Boucaniers have completed their 28-game schedule at 17-11.
All four have clinched playoff berths.
The complication is that postponed games have left Savigny, Rouen and Montpellier with two regular-season games still to play. Those makeup doubleheaders on August 29 and 30 will decide the final order of the top four and therefore the two semifinal matchups.

The standings confirm that the playoff field itself can no longer change. Even if fifth-place Sénart sweeps its final two games, the Templiers can finish no better than 16-12, leaving them behind La Rochelle's completed 17-11 record.
What remains unresolved is potentially more important: who finishes first, who receives the No. 2 seed and which teams meet in the semifinals.
Three makeup series will finish the regular season on August 29-30
Six games remain on the French Division 1 regular-season calendar.
The scheduled makeup series are:

- Stade Toulousain Tigers at Paris Université Club
The first games are currently listed for Saturday, August 29 at 18:00, with the second games scheduled for Sunday, August 30 at 13:00. Montpellier-Savigny will be played in Savigny-sur-Orge, while Rouen visits Sénart in Lieusaint and Toulouse travels to Paris.
Only two of those series affect the playoff seeding race.
And they could change almost everything.
Savigny controls the race for the No. 1 seed
Savigny enters the final weekend in the strongest position.
At 18-8, the Lions can finish:
- 20-8 with a sweep of Montpellier
- 19-9 with a split
- 18-10 if Montpellier sweeps
A Savigny sweep would settle the question immediately. At 20-8, nobody else could catch the Lions.
Anything less creates possibilities for Rouen and Montpellier.
If Savigny splits with Montpellier, the Lions finish 19-9. A Rouen sweep of Sénart would also put the Huskies at 19-9, forcing the top seed to be settled under the federation's tiebreaking regulations.
If Montpellier sweeps Savigny, the Barracudas improve to 19-9 and Savigny falls to 18-10. Rouen could also reach 19-9 by sweeping Sénart, creating another potential tie at the top.
The FFBS regulations specify that postseason qualification and positioning are based on winning percentage, with ties handled under the federation's general tiebreak procedures.
That makes Montpellier at Savigny the defining series of the final regular-season weekend.
Savigny-sur-Orge Lions: pitching has put a former champion back on top
Savigny's position represents one of the most significant developments of the 2026 season.
The Lions have combined remarkable consistency with one of the league's strongest pitching staffs. According to Baseball TV France's August 13 statistical review, Savigny was the only Division 1 club that had not lost both games of a doubleheader at that point in the season. The Lions were 10-2 in their designated home games and had suffered consecutive losses only once.
The centerpiece has been Pena, whose season numbers entering the final series stand out even in a pitching-heavy championship race.
Pena has compiled a 9-2 record with a 1.35 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 86.1 innings. He has recorded at least 10 strikeouts in five starts and reached seven innings on five occasions.
That works out to approximately 11.3 strikeouts per nine innings, an exceptional rate for a pitcher carrying such a heavy workload.
Savigny's staff had already accumulated a league-leading 238 strikeouts in the statistical snapshot published before the last full round, with a 3.38 team ERA, second only to Rouen at the time.
There is, however, a significant warning sign.
Savigny's defense remains its biggest playoff question
The Lions had committed 60 errors through the August 13 review, matching Paris Université Club for the highest total referenced by Baseball TV France.
That is a striking contrast for a championship contender with elite pitching.
Against Sénart in its most recent doubleheader, Savigny won the opener 3-2 but committed five errors in a 10-4 loss in the second game.
In a best-of-five playoff series, giving opponents extra outs can erase the advantage created by a dominant starting pitcher very quickly.
The Lions therefore enter the postseason race with perhaps the most obvious strength-and-weakness combination among the four contenders: front-line run prevention from the mound, but a defense capable of making games unnecessarily difficult.
Rouen Huskies are peaking at exactly the right time
If Savigny owns first place, the Rouen Huskies may own the most momentum.
The defending French champions have won seven consecutive games and remain capable of stealing the No. 1 seed during the final weekend.
Their most recent statement could hardly have been stronger.
Facing Montpellier — one of the principal championship favorites — Rouen swept the Barracudas by scores of 13-3 and 7-1.
That was a 20-4 aggregate margin against a team that had spent much of the season producing the strongest offensive numbers in Division 1.
The first game included 13 Rouen hits and three home runs. Over the two games, Hugo Blondel homered and drove in four runs, Oscar Lebouc went 5-for-8 with five RBI, and Harrison collected five hits in nine at-bats.
It was exactly the kind of performance expected from a club that has dominated modern French baseball.
Rouen won the French championship in 2024 and 2025, and the official FFBS historical record credits the organization with 19 Division 1 championships overall.
Rouen's pitching and defense make the Huskies dangerous in a series
Even before their late-season surge, Rouen's underlying numbers were impressive.
In the league-wide statistical snapshot published August 7, the Huskies led Division 1 with a 2.97 team ERA, making them the only club below 3.00 at that stage.
They also owned the league's best .963 fielding percentage and led with 10 home runs, while their 168 runs scored ranked second behind Montpellier.
That balance is especially relevant once the championship shifts to best-of-five series.
A team that can prevent runs through both pitching and defense does not need its offense to dominate every night. Rouen's recent offensive explosion only makes the defending champion more difficult to evaluate against.
The Huskies have one final regular-season assignment: two games against a Sénart Templiers team that has already been eliminated but is 14-12 and capable of affecting the title race.
Montpellier Barracudas face their biggest test of the season
Montpellier's position is fascinating.
The Barracudas are already in the playoffs at 17-9 and can still finish first, yet they enter their decisive Savigny series immediately after being comprehensively swept by Rouen.
That creates a sharp contrast between season-long offensive production and very recent results.
Before the latest weekend, Montpellier led Division 1 with a .332 team batting average and 194 runs scored. The Barracudas were also second with 212 pitching strikeouts and owned a .952 fielding percentage, making them much more than an offense-only club.
At the individual level, Paolo Brossier remains one of the central figures in the championship race.
As of August 24, Brossier leads qualified Division 1 hitters with a remarkable .478 batting average. The next-best average listed in the current league leaders is .414, giving the Montpellier outfielder a substantial advantage at the top of the batting race.
Montpellier now needs that offense to respond.
A sweep of Savigny would take the Barracudas from 17-9 to 19-9 and guarantee they finish ahead of the Lions. Depending on Rouen's results at Sénart and the applicable tiebreakers, that could also give Montpellier the top seed.
A split leaves Montpellier at 18-10.
A Savigny sweep drops the Barracudas to 17-11, exactly level with La Rochelle and potentially level with Rouen if the Huskies also lose twice.
For a team that has spent much of the year near the top of the statistical rankings, those two games could determine whether Montpellier begins the postseason as a top seed or enters from the lower half of the bracket.
La Rochelle Boucaniers have already done their job
La Rochelle is the only playoff club that can spend the final weekend watching.
The Boucaniers have completed all 28 regular-season games, finishing 17-11 for a .607 winning percentage.
They secured their postseason berth by sweeping the Stade Toulousain Tigers 5-4 and 3-0 in their final doubleheader.
The 17 victories represent the strongest regular-season win total in the club's history according to Baseball TV France's season review, and the Boucaniers have reached the Division 1 final four for the second consecutive season.
La Rochelle's seed, however, is not necessarily fixed at No. 4.
Because Rouen and Montpellier can each fall to 17-11, there are scenarios in which three clubs finish tied on that record. Federation tiebreaking rules would then determine their order.
That means the Boucaniers still do not know either their semifinal opponent or whether they will enter the series as the third or fourth seed. Baseball TV France specifically noted after La Rochelle clinched that the club would have to wait for the postponed games to determine both its opponent and the location of the semifinal.
How the French Division 1 playoffs work in 2026
The 2026 Division 1 consists of eight clubs playing a 28-game regular season.
The four highest winning percentages advance to the semifinals:

Both semifinals are best-of-five series played over two weekends.

For every other contender, the road to the 2026 championship may again run through Rouen.
