Pirates Prospect Brent Iredale Returns Home for Sydney Blue Sox ABL Debut
Pirates prospect Brent Iredale joins the Sydney Blue Sox for his ABL debut after hitting 16 home runs in the 2026 minor league season.

Brent Iredale is heading back to Sydney with considerably more professional experience than when he left. The Pittsburgh Pirates prospect has joined the Sydney Blue Sox for the 2026-27 Australian Baseball League season after hitting 16 home runs in his first full year in the American minor leagues.
The 23-year-old infielder is preparing for his first ABL season with his hometown club, which opens its campaign against the Perth Heat on November 19. For Sydney, it is an opportunity to add a developing power hitter just weeks before the league returns.
Sixteen home runs in his first full professional season
Iredale batted .250 with 16 home runs, 51 RBI and a .878 OPS in 80 minor league games during 2026. Most of that work came with the Single-A Bradenton Marauders, where he hit 14 homers in 70 games. He finished the year with a brief promotion to High-A Greensboro.
Those numbers followed a rapid rise through American college baseball. After hitting 25 home runs at New Mexico Junior College in 2024, Iredale transferred to Arkansas and hit .286 with 14 homers, 57 RBI and a .994 OPS in 65 games. He helped the Razorbacks reach the College World Series before Pittsburgh selected him in the seventh round of the 2025 MLB Draft, 203rd overall.
His first professional summer also showed the adjustment required at the next level. Across his 2026 minor league games, Iredale drew enough walks to post a .378 on-base percentage while striking out in nearly 30 percent of his plate appearances. The ABL will offer another stretch of competitive at-bats before his next American season.
A homecoming with a bigger role to play
Iredale developed at Blacktown Workers Baseball Club and is now set to play in front of the Sydney baseball community that watched his progression from junior representative baseball to the United States.
The Blue Sox have confirmed his addition to their 2026-27 signing tracker. With the ABL season approaching, the question is how quickly Iredale’s minor league power will translate against the mix of Australian veterans and international prospects that make up the competition.
Sydney begins its season at home against Perth on November 19, giving Iredale an immediate chance to turn a promising professional year into an impact ABL debut.
