LIDOM news
More LIDOM newsThe Dominican winter league, explained
LIDOM is where Dominican baseball lives from October to January. Big-league regulars, top MLB prospects and veterans share the field with the country's most passionate crowds, in ballparks from Santo Domingo to Santiago. Founded in 1951, the league is one of the oldest and most decorated winter leagues in the Caribbean.
How the season works
Each of the six teams plays a 50-game regular season, which runs from October 16 to December 22 this winter. The top four clubs advance to the Round Robin, an 18-game second stage. The two best teams from the Round Robin meet in a best-of-seven final, and the champion represents the Dominican Republic at the Caribbean Series against the winter champions of Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.
Why fans around the world follow LIDOM
If you follow MLB, LIDOM is the best place to watch prospects get reps in front of demanding crowds, see veterans prepare for spring training, and catch players returning home to play for the club they grew up with. Rivalries such as Licey vs. Escogido, the two Santo Domingo clubs that share Estadio Quisqueya, make every series feel like October.
