Nicaragua Delays Six-Team Professional Baseball Season to December 3

Nicaragua's APBN postpones its six-team 2026–27 baseball season from November 27 to December 3, with national-team commitments behind the change.

MANAGUA, Nicaragua — Nicaragua’s professional baseball season will now open on Thursday, December 3, 2026, rather than November 27, after the Asociación Profesional de Béisbol Nicaragüense (APBN) revised its calendar to accommodate national-team commitments. The league’s new target for the end of the 2026–27 campaign is February 5, 2027.

The change, reported in Nicaragua on October 27, pushes back the start of a season that is already significant for another reason: the addition of Los Dantos as the competition’s sixth club. The original November 27 opening date had been announced at the league’s September presentation, giving teams and supporters several weeks to prepare for the new campaign.

International commitments reshape the opening date

According to local reports citing the APBN’s announcement, the postponement is designed to avoid clashes with Nicaragua’s international baseball commitments, including the men’s U-23 World Cup and Premier12-related national-team activities. Nicaragua is scheduled to host the U-23 World Cup in November, adding another major event to an already busy national baseball calendar.

The revised December 3 start date was reported by both VOS TV and La Nueva Radio YA on October 27. It replaces the November 27 date publicized when the APBN unveiled its plans for the season.

Los Dantos prepare for their first professional season

The six-team field consists of defending champions Leones de León, Indios del Bóer, Tigres de Chinandega, Gigantes de Rivas, Tren del Norte and newcomers Los Dantos. Their arrival expands the competition from five clubs and gives the Managua-based team its first season in the professional circuit.

At its September launch, the APBN outlined a 35-game regular season for each team, followed by best-of-seven semifinals and a best-of-seven championship series. The originally announced opening matchups included Dantos against Tigres, Gigantes against Leones and Bóer against Tren del Norte. Those fixtures were part of the earlier calendar and should not be treated as confirmed December 3 pairings until a revised schedule is issued.

For the six clubs, the immediate priority is adjusting preparations around the new opening date. For supporters, the wait for Nicaragua’s expanded professional season will last an additional six days.
