2027 European Baseball Championship Groups Set as Olympic Qualification Stakes Rise
The 2027 European Baseball Championship groups are set for Germany, with the Netherlands defending its title and Olympic qualification also at stake.

The field for the 2027 European Baseball Championship is set, with defending champion Netherlands drawn alongside Great Britain, France and Slovakia in Group B as Germany prepares to host a 16-team tournament with added significance on the road to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
WBSC Europe revealed the four groups on September 18. The championship will return to a single host country after the 2025 edition was staged across the Netherlands, Italy and Belgium, with games in 2027 scheduled for Regensburg and Munich.
2027 European Baseball Championship groups
- Group A: Czechia, Germany, Sweden, Greece
- Group B: Netherlands, Great Britain, France, Slovakia
- Group C: Spain, Israel, Switzerland, Belgium
- Group D: Italy, Croatia, Austria, Bulgaria
Slovakia and Bulgaria secured the final two places through qualification earlier this year. Slovakia will make its second European Championship appearance, while Bulgaria is set for its debut at the senior men’s tournament.
Netherlands begins title defense in Group B
The Netherlands enters 2027 as the team to beat after reclaiming the European title in Rotterdam in 2025. The Dutch went unbeaten and defeated Italy 6-5 in the championship game to win a record 25th European crown.
Group B reunites the Netherlands with Great Britain and France, two opponents it also faced during the 2025 group stage. Slovakia completes the section after earning its place through qualification.
Italy, the 2025 silver medalist, headlines Group D. Czechia, which beat Spain 9-2 to claim its first European Championship bronze medal last year, will face host Germany in Group A. Spain and Israel lead Group C.
European Championship carries Olympic implications
The 2027 tournament will matter beyond the European title. Its final standings form part of Europe’s qualification pathway for baseball’s return to the Olympic Games at Los Angeles 2028.
The top two eligible European Championship finishers are set to advance to the six-team final Olympic qualifier. If a European nation has already secured an Olympic berth through the 2027 Premier12 and also finishes in the top two at the European Championship, the European bronze medalist would take the corresponding place in the final qualifier.
That gives the tournament a second layer of pressure for Europe’s leading programs. The Netherlands and Italy remain the continent’s traditional powers, but Czechia’s first medal in 2025 and the continued development of Germany, Spain and Great Britain have made the field increasingly competitive.
For Bulgaria, meanwhile, the draw confirms a first appearance on Europe’s biggest senior men’s baseball stage. With four groups now established, the road to Germany in 2027 — and potentially Los Angeles in 2028 — has a much clearer shape.
