Palestine earned its first baseball victory at the Asian Games on Friday, September 25, defeating Hong Kong 7-2 in the placement round in Toyohashi, Japan. The breakthrough came four days after Palestine began its first Asian Games campaign.

  • Final score: Palestine 7, Hong Kong 2
  • Date: September 25, 2026
  • Round: Asian Games placement round
  • Venue: Toyohashi Municipal Stadium

Palestine Turns Historic Debut Into Historic Victory

Palestine entered the placement round after finishing fourth in Group A. The team opened against the Philippines before facing host Japan and China, three games that underlined the difficulty of its first appearance at the continental multisport event.

Friday’s result changed the tone of that debut. Palestine held Hong Kong to two runs and produced its best offensive performance of the tournament, scoring seven to secure a first Asian Games win for the national baseball program.

The victory was also Palestine’s first game against an opponent from Group B. Hong Kong had faced Thailand, South Korea and Chinese Taipei in the opening round before moving into the placement stage.

A Young Program Adds Another International Milestone

Palestine’s baseball program has built its international presence quickly. The national team has already competed at the West Asia Baseball Championship and the Asian Baseball Championship, but reaching the Asian Games placed it on a larger continental stage alongside Japan, South Korea and Chinese Taipei.

The roster is drawn heavily from players of Palestinian heritage living abroad, while the program continues working to develop the sport in Palestinian communities. That background has made every international appearance about more than the result alone, but the 7-2 win gives the team a concrete competitive milestone to carry forward.

Palestine is scheduled to complete the placement round against Thailand on Saturday, September 26. A second victory would allow the team to close its debut Asian Games with consecutive wins after a difficult opening group.

Whatever happens in the final game, Palestine will leave Japan with something it did not have when the tournament began: an Asian Games baseball victory.
