Hynek Čapka is leaving his position as manager of Draci Brno, ending a seven-season run that brought the Czech club five Extraliga championships and a historic European title. Draci confirmed the change on October 19, following a 2026 season in which the former domestic champions finished third in both the Czech league and the Baseball Champions League Europe.

Čapka took charge before the 2020 season and immediately led Draci back to the top of Czech baseball. That title was followed by a runner-up finish in 2021 and four consecutive championships from 2022 through 2025, extending the club’s record haul to 26 national crowns.

His departure marks the end of one of the most successful recent managerial spells in European club baseball. The club thanked him for the time he devoted to the organization on and off the field, but did not announce a successor in its departure statement.

Five Czech titles and a European first

Čapka’s most significant achievement beyond the Extraliga came in 2024, when Draci defeated Regensburg to become the first Czech club to win Europe’s highest-level club championship. It was a milestone for a program already accustomed to winning at home but determined to establish itself among the continent’s elite.

He was named Czech Coach of the Year in 2020 and again in 2024. He also served on the Czech national team’s coaching staff at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, another sign of his standing in the country’s baseball community.

A different ending in 2026

The 2026 campaign brought a change in the domestic hierarchy. Draci’s city rivals Hroši Brno eliminated them from title contention and went on to claim their first Extraliga championship. Draci recovered to beat Eagles Praha in the bronze-medal series, but their streak of four straight national titles was over.

There was still a final European podium finish. Draci reached the Baseball Champions League Europe Final Four in Brno and defeated Tenerife Marlins 7-1 in the third-place game in late September. That result gave Čapka one more medal before his exit was confirmed.

Draci now face the task of choosing a new manager for 2027. Whoever takes over inherits a club with an exceptional domestic record and a European standard that Čapka helped raise.
