Trevor Bauer’s LIDOM Debut Spoiled by Águilas in 11 Innings
Trevor Bauer allowed one unearned run in five innings, but Águilas Cibaeñas held Estrellas to one hit in a 5-2, 11-inning LIDOM win.

SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS, Dominican Republic — Trevor Bauer finally made his Dominican winter-league debut on Thursday, October 29, but the night belonged to Águilas Cibaeñas. The visitors held Estrellas Orientales to one hit across 11 innings and won 5-2 at Estadio Tetelo Vargas, denying the former Cy Young Award winner a winning start to his LIDOM career.
Bauer worked five innings, allowing two hits and one unearned run while striking out four. His five walks made the outing less comfortable than the run column suggested, and he departed with no decision. The right-hander’s scheduled debut on October 27 had been postponed by rain.
One hit, 11 innings and a late Águilas breakthrough
The matchup became a pitching contest rather than the showcase Estrellas had hoped to stage around their high-profile newcomer. Águilas starter Dylan File matched Bauer through five innings, and the visitors’ staff kept Estrellas from mounting a sustained rally throughout the night.
Bauer navigated early traffic, including a first-inning threat with runners at the corners. A malfunctioning light tower caused a lengthy interruption in the second inning, but he returned to complete his start. J.C. Escarra brought home Águilas’ first run on a bases-loaded groundout in the third.
Escarra drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh to put Águilas ahead 2-1. Estrellas leveled the score in the eighth when Magneuris Sierra came home as Harold Ramírez grounded into a double play. Neither club broke the deadlock in the ninth or tenth.
Águilas finally pulled away in the 11th, capitalizing on a defensive mistake during an attempted double play before adding an insurance run. The three-run inning settled a game in which Estrellas had managed just one hit.
A milestone debut, but no immediate lift for Estrellas
Bauer, 35, became the first imported pitcher to appear in LIDOM after winning a Major League Baseball Cy Young Award. He received the National League honor with the Cincinnati Reds in 2020. Dominican pitcher Bartolo Colón had previously appeared in the league after winning the award.
The veteran has pitched in Japan, Mexico and the United States’ independent leagues since his last MLB appearance in 2021. Estrellas signed him to strengthen their rotation, but his first outing illustrated the difference between limiting runs and controlling an opponent: Bauer escaped damage despite five walks, while the Estrellas lineup could not provide enough support.
Águilas improved to 3-6 with the victory, while Estrellas slipped to 5-4. For both clubs, the result mattered more than the name on the mound.
