Seven Toros del Este pitchers combined to hold Gigantes del Cibao to one hit in a 6-0 shutout on Wednesday, October 28, at Estadio Francisco A. Micheli in La Romana. The performance snapped a four-game losing streak and pulled Toros level with Gigantes at 4-5 in the Dominican winter league standings.

The visitors’ only hit came from Deyvison De los Santos in the fourth inning. By then, Toros had already built a three-run lead, and their bullpen never allowed Gigantes back into the game.

Seven pitchers, one hit and 11 strikeouts

Noah Skirrow set the tone with three hitless innings, one walk and two strikeouts. Phillips Valdez surrendered the lone single in the fourth, but Johan Simón, Julián Fernández, Ángel Felipe, Wilian Bormie and Francys Peguero followed with five more scoreless frames.

Simón earned the victory with a perfect fifth inning that included two strikeouts. Felipe struck out all three hitters he faced in the seventh, while Bormie added two more strikeouts in the eighth. The staff finished with 11 strikeouts and delivered Toros’ first shutout of the 2026-27 LIDOM season.

The effort was particularly timely for a team that had dropped four straight games and entered Wednesday near the bottom of the six-team standings. Gigantes, meanwhile, suffered a third consecutive defeat.

Ronny Simón adds a homer, three hits and two steals

Ronny Simón led the offense with three hits in five at-bats, including his second home run of the season, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Jesús Sánchez doubled home the first run in a three-run opening inning against Jackson Goddard, and Pedro Severino added a sacrifice fly.

Simón’s solo homer to right in the fourth made it 4-0. Juan Brito followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Gilberto Celestino, who had stolen both second and third base. Celestino later singled in Simón in the sixth, completing the scoring.

Toros finished with nine hits and no errors. Gigantes committed three errors, and Goddard took the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, in 2 2/3 innings.

Both clubs now sit at 4-5, tied for fourth in the early LIDOM race. Toros face first-place Tigres del Licey on Thursday in a game rescheduled after Tuesday’s rainouts.
