MILWAUKEE, October 24, 2026 — The Milwaukee Brewers erased a four-run first-inning deficit to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 in Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday night, taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven championship. Rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt, whose throwing error helped Tampa Bay’s early rally, delivered the go-ahead single in the seventh inning.

Sal Frelick had already pulled Milwaukee level with a solo home run in the sixth. It was his first homer since July 11, ending a stretch of 103 plate appearances without going deep.

Rays strike early, but Brewers stay within reach

Tampa Bay took advantage of Pratt’s errant first-inning throw and built a 4-0 lead against starter Logan Henderson. Chandler Simpson and Junior Caminero each drove in a run with a single before Liam Hicks added a two-run homer.

Milwaukee answered immediately. William Contreras and Garrett Mitchell supplied RBI singles in the bottom of the first, cutting the gap to two runs. David Hamilton’s fourth-inning grounder, misplayed by Rays first baseman Jonathan Aranda, brought home another run and made it 4-3.

Henderson lasted three innings, allowing four runs, three earned. Rays starter Drew Rasmussen surrendered three runs over 3⅔ innings.

Frelick ties it, Pratt completes the comeback

Frelick worked a nine-pitch at-bat against left-hander Ian Seymour in the sixth before driving a fastball over the center-field fence. The 408-foot shot tied the game at four and transformed the mood at American Family Field.

An inning later, Brice Turang opened with a double and moved to third on Garrett Mitchell’s fly ball. Pratt then dropped a single into shallow right field off Kevin Kelly, scoring Turang with the decisive run.

For the 22-year-old shortstop, who made his major league debut in June, the hit provided an immediate response to the mistake that helped put Milwaukee behind.

Milwaukee’s bullpen protects a 2-0 lead

Brewers relievers combined for six scoreless innings. Abner Uribe earned the victory with 1⅓ hitless frames, while Aaron Ashby escaped a ninth-inning threat after Jonny DeLuca led off with a double. With the tying run at third, Ashby struck out Yandy Díaz to finish the game.

Milwaukee has now won seven consecutive postseason games and has overcome a four-run deficit twice during this playoff run. The Brewers also rallied from 4-0 down to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series.

The series shifts to St. Petersburg for Game 3 on Monday, October 26. Robert Gasser is scheduled to start for Milwaukee against former Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta, now with Tampa Bay. Both clubs are pursuing the first World Series title in franchise history.
