Sauryn Lao Leads Escogido to 10th Straight Win, Four Shy of LIDOM Record
Sauryn Lao threw six scoreless innings as Escogido won its 10th straight game and moved four victories from the all-time LIDOM record.

Sauryn Lao threw six scoreless innings as Leones del Escogido beat Gigantes del Cibao 5–1 on Wednesday night, extending their winning streak to 10 games and moving within four victories of the all-time LIDOM record.
- Final score: Escogido 5, Gigantes 1
- Winning streak: 10 games
- Escogido record: 11–4, first place
- Sauryn Lao: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Lao controls Gigantes for a second time
Lao improved to 2–0 by filling the strike zone and keeping Gigantes off balance at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal. The right-hander threw 51 strikes among 67 pitches, retired 11 consecutive batters at one stage and became Escogido’s first starter to complete six innings this season.
It was his second dominant start against Gigantes in less than a week. Lao had already worked five scoreless innings against them on October 29, then went one inning deeper in the rematch without issuing a walk. His four-seam fastball averaged 93.5 mph, supported by a cutter, sinker and slider.
Ramón Laureano gave Escogido the lead in the first inning with a two-run double. Vidal Bruján added a two-run triple in the fourth and later scored the fifth run during a rundown play. Bruján finished 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs and his 10th stolen base.
Gigantes scored their only run on Carlos Peguero’s RBI double in the seventh. Héctor Neris escaped a two-on, one-out threat in the eighth by inducing a double play from Marcell Ozuna, and Robinson Martínez worked a scoreless ninth.
Escogido closes in on LIDOM’s longest streak
The 10-game run has carried the defending back-to-back champions to an 11–4 record and the top of the LIDOM standings. It also surpasses the club’s nine-game streak from the 1998–99 season.
Escogido now sits four wins short of the league record of 14 consecutive victories, set by Gigantes del Cibao in 2006–07. The streak has become a test of consistency as well as history: Escogido has won in different ways, from Laureano’s walk-off homer for win No. 9 to Lao’s command-driven start for No. 10.
The Leones are off Thursday before visiting Gigantes again Friday at Estadio Julián Javier. A win there would extend the streak to 11 and move Escogido another step closer to the LIDOM mark.
