Arjun Nimmala Collects Five Hits as Mesa Solar Sox Score 21 in AFL Rout
Arjun Nimmala went 5-for-7 with a homer and double as Mesa Solar Sox routed Salt River 21-5 in the Arizona Fall League on October 29.

Arjun Nimmala turned another standout Arizona Fall League performance into his biggest hit total of the month Thursday, October 29, going 5-for-7 with a home run as the Mesa Solar Sox overwhelmed the Salt River Rafters 21-5 at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The Los Angeles Angels’ top prospect also doubled, scored three runs, drove in two and stole a base without striking out. His five hits tied the most in an Arizona Fall League game this season, matching Welbyn Francisca’s October 3 performance, and ended a seven-game stretch in which Nimmala had gone just 2-for-24 with 10 strikeouts.
Nimmala adds power to a five-hit night
Nimmala’s five hits included a two-run homer and a double. His performance came two weeks after a four-hit game against the same opponent on October 15, when he collected a double and two triples. This time, he added a home run to another multi-extra-base-hit display.
Mesa broke the game open with seven runs in the third inning, then added three in the fourth and five in the fifth. The Solar Sox piled on six more in the eighth to reach 21, their highest total in this matchup. Salt River committed seven errors, compounding the damage as Mesa kept pressure on its pitching staff.
Nimmala was not the only hitter producing. Catcher Miguel Useche collected three doubles and five RBIs, while Jake Cook scored four times and Kade Snell added four runs. The Solar Sox finished with 18 hits and nine walks.
Angels prospect keeps building momentum
For Nimmala, the night was another sign of how much momentum he has carried into the fall. The 21-year-old shortstop was named Arizona Fall League Hitter of the Week earlier in October after batting .545 over three games, with two doubles, two triples and just one strikeout.
The Angels acquired Nimmala from the Toronto Blue Jays in an August trade involving right-hander José Soriano. He finished the minor-league regular season with 16 home runs in 89 games across multiple levels and has used his time with Mesa to continue testing his bat against top prospects.
The five-hit rebound lifted Nimmala’s Arizona Fall League OPS to .980 after it had fallen to .854 during his slump. “I just try to keep as much confidence as possible,” he told MLB.com. The result did not decide a title, but it gave the Angels’ prized shortstop a convincing answer to his first prolonged cold stretch of the fall.
