Braves Keep Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ozzie Albies for 2027 With $24 Million in Options
The Braves exercised Ronald Acuña Jr.’s $17 million option and Ozzie Albies’ $7 million option, keeping both stars for the 2027 season.

The Atlanta Braves exercised their 2027 club options on Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ozzie Albies, committing a combined $24 million to keep two longtime franchise cornerstones together for at least one more season.
Acuña will earn $17 million in 2027, while Albies will make $7 million. The decisions were expected, but they remove two prominent names from the potential free-agent pool and give Atlanta cost certainty as it begins shaping next season’s roster.
Acuña gets another season to rebuild momentum
Acuña’s option follows a 2026 season that mixed stretches of elite production with more injury concerns. The 2023 National League MVP hit .255 with 20 home runs, 55 RBIs, 21 stolen bases and a .796 OPS across 107 games.
Two left hamstring injuries cost him roughly a third of the season, extending a difficult run since the outfielder tore his left ACL in 2024. He did, however, finish the regular season with a .997 OPS over his final 26 games, offering the Braves evidence that his impact bat remains.
Atlanta also holds a $17 million option on Acuña for 2028. That gives the club another season to evaluate his health and performance before making its next long-term decision.
Albies enters final year of club control
Albies played all 162 regular-season games in 2026 and hit .237 with 22 home runs, 73 RBIs and 85 runs. The four-time All-Star then produced a 1.067 OPS during the postseason.
The $7 million option is the final one attached to the seven-year contract Albies signed in 2019. He can become a free agent after the 2027 season unless Atlanta signs him to another extension.
Albies has completed 10 seasons with the Braves and remains the longest-tenured player on the roster. His durability and clubhouse role made the option straightforward despite a second-half offensive decline.
Atlanta preserves a familiar core
Exercising both options keeps two players who have defined the Braves’ most recent era at the center of the 2027 lineup. Their combined salaries also leave Atlanta with flexibility to address other needs after its postseason exit.
The Braves simultaneously reinstated pitchers Spencer Schwellenbach, Spencer Strider, Hurston Waldrep and Joey Wentz from the 60-day injured list, a procedural move that returned each player to the 40-man roster.
