Ahn Woo-jin controls the league leaders
KT entered the game with the KBO’s best record and a favorable matchup against a Kiwoom team that had dropped six straight. Ahn reversed that expectation by keeping the home lineup scoreless through six innings and limiting KT to two hits.
He worked around four walks without allowing KT to build a rally. By the time he left, Kiwoom had a 3-0 lead and control of a game that became increasingly one-sided against the KT bullpen.
KT starter Ko Young-pyo struck out nine over six innings, but Kiwoom scored three runs against him on seven hits and two walks. Park Chan-hyeok opened the scoring with a first-inning sacrifice fly before Kim Woong-bin hit a two-run homer in the third.
Kiwoom breaks the game open late
Matt Davidson and Keston Hiura hit back-to-back solo home runs in the seventh inning, beginning the surge that turned Ahn’s pitching duel into a comfortable Kiwoom win. The Heroes added another run later in the inning and scored four more in the eighth.
Davidson finished 4-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and one RBI. Kim went 2-for-2 with three walks, three RBIs and two runs, while Park collected three hits and drove in three.
KT’s only run came on Sam Hilliard’s sacrifice fly in the eighth. By then, Kiwoom had built a double-digit total and removed any realistic path back into the game for the league leaders.
The result moved Kiwoom to 46 wins while dealing KT its 49th loss. More importantly for the pennant race, KT’s advantage over the second-place Samsung Lions narrowed to 2.5 games late in the regular season.
For Kiwoom, the win offered a sharp response to its recent slide. For KT, losing 10-1 at home to the bottom club turned what looked like a favorable fixture into a result with consequences at the top of the KBO standings.
