Kim Do-yeong hit a go-ahead three-run home run with two outs in the ninth inning on Monday, lifting the KIA Tigers to a 6-4 comeback victory over the LG Twins at Jamsil Baseball Stadium and back into sole possession of the KBO home-run lead.

KIA entered the ninth trailing 4-3 and was one out from a defeat that could have cost the Tigers third place. Pinch hitter Park Jung-woo and Park Jae-hyun kept the game alive with consecutive singles, but Kim Sun-bin struck out to leave Kim as KIA’s final chance.

Facing LG closer Go Woo-suk, Kim turned on a 155-kilometre-per-hour inside fastball and sent it over the left-field wall. The 105-metre drive was his 42nd home run of the season, moving him one ahead of KT Wiz slugger Sam Hilliard.

KIA completes three-game sweep

The homer also completed KIA’s third straight comeback victory over LG. The Tigers swept the three-game series in Seoul and improved to 75-61-2, holding third place by one game over the fourth-place Twins.

LG fell to 75-63-1 and extended its losing streak to eight games. The Twins are also only two games ahead of the fifth-place Doosan Bears, adding pressure to a crowded late-season race for postseason position.

The comeback looked unlikely after the first inning. LG scored four runs against KIA starter Adam Oller, with Moon Jung-bin and Moon Bo-kyung producing RBI hits before Lee Ju-heon added a two-run single.

KIA began its response in the fourth. Kim Ho-ryeong drove in two runs with a single, then helped create another run in the sixth when an LG throwing error allowed Kim Kyu-sung to score.

Oller kept LG scoreless after the first and completed six innings. KIA’s bullpen then gave the offense time to finish the comeback, with Lee Tae-yang, Lee Eui-lee, Jung Hae-young and Seong Young-tak combining for three scoreless innings.

Seong retired all three batters in the bottom of the ninth after Kim’s homer.

Kim had been held without a hit in his first four plate appearances, drawing one walk, before producing the game’s defining swing. His first home run since September 29 changed the score, preserved KIA’s hold on third place and returned him to the top of the KBO home-run race with the regular season in its final days.
