Oh Ji-hwan went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs as the LG Twins overwhelmed the first-place KT Wiz 12-1 on Friday, September 18, ending KT’s seven-game winning streak and extending LG’s own run to five straight victories.

The veteran shortstop came within a triple of the cycle at Suwon KT Wiz Park, homering in the second and eighth innings and adding a two-run single in the third. The result moved third-place LG to 73-55-1 and tightened the race above them, with KT falling to 76-46-4 and second-place Samsung moving within 1.5 games of the lead.

Oh Ji-hwan powers LG from the start

Oh opened the scoring by leading off the second inning with his 12th home run of the season, driving a Logan Allen pitch over the right-field wall for a 119.1-meter solo shot.

He struck again an inning later. After Austin Dean walked and stole second and Song Chan-ui doubled him home, KT intentionally walked Moon Jeong-bin. Oh answered with a two-run single to left to stretch LG’s lead to 3-0.

The shortstop saved his biggest swing for the eighth. With LG already in control, Oh launched a two-run homer to right that traveled 127.6 meters. It was his 13th home run of the season and completed a four-hit, four-RBI night.

KT unravels in decisive fifth inning

LG turned a 3-0 game into a rout during a chaotic fifth inning. KT third baseman Heo Kyung-min was unable to complete a rundown at home and later made a throwing error, while another defensive sequence involving the left side of the infield helped LG add three runs and build a 6-0 advantage.

The Twins continued to apply pressure after the inning. Song Chan-ui finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, while Austin reached base five times with two hits and three walks.

KT’s only run came on Kim Hyun-soo’s solo home run in the seventh inning.

Anders Tolhurst shuts down KBO leaders

LG starter Anders Tolhurst gave the lineup room to break the game open. The right-hander worked six innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out seven. He recorded his 16th quality start and improved to 12-9.

KT starter Logan Allen allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out five and fell to 6-4.

The loss snapped KT’s seven-game winning streak at a costly point in the KBO pennant race. Samsung won its own game Friday, cutting KT’s advantage at the top to 1.5 games, while LG’s fifth consecutive victory keeps the Twins moving in the opposite direction as the regular season approaches its final stretch.
