Noelvi Marte homered and drove in two runs as the Gigantes del Cibao beat the Leones del Escogido 5-4 on Friday, November 6, ending the LIDOM leaders’ 10-game winning streak at Estadio Julián Javier in San Francisco de Macorís.

Gigantes hit three home runs and survived a ninth-inning comeback attempt to move back to .500 at 8-8. Escogido fell to 11-5 but remained in first place in the 2026-27 Dominican winter league standings.

Marte powers Gigantes’ response

Escogido scored first when Junior Lake reached third on a throwing error and came home on Erik González’s sacrifice bunt. Gigantes answered immediately. Marte reached base before Roldy Brito hit a two-run homer to left field, turning the early deficit into a 2-1 lead.

Marte doubled home Kelvin Gutiérrez in the second inning. Escogido tied the game at 3-3 in the third on a wild pitch and José Marmolejos’s RBI double, but Gigantes regained control with solo home runs in consecutive innings.

Nomar Mazara broke the tie in the fourth, driving a Juan Mercedes pitch out between right and center field. Marte then homered to left in the fifth for the run that ultimately decided the game.

Marte finished 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Brito added two RBIs and two stolen bases, while Mazara’s homer supplied the go-ahead run.

Gigantes bullpen protects one-run lead

Yovanny Cruz earned the win with a scoreless inning and two strikeouts. Brent Honeywell handled the ninth and allowed Michael De La Cruz’s solo homer, which cut the lead to one, before securing his first save of the season.

Juan Mercedes took the loss after allowing two runs and two home runs in 2 1/3 innings. Gigantes finished with eight hits, while Escogido collected seven.

The defeat stopped Escogido one victory short of setting a new franchise record. The reigning LIDOM champions had matched the club’s longest winning streak at 10 games but could not extend it against a Gigantes lineup that answered every comeback attempt with power.
