Alfonzo Brothers Homer for Opposing Teams Again in Historic LVBP Night
Omar and Eliézer Alfonzo Jr. became the first brothers to homer as opponents in two LVBP games as Caribes beat Magallanes 6–5.

Omar Alfonzo and Eliézer Alfonzo Jr. became the first brothers to homer for opposing teams in the same LVBP game twice, and Omar’s pinch-hit blast gave Caribes de Anzoátegui a 6–5 win over Navegantes del Magallanes in Puerto La Cruz on Thursday night.
The historic family moment also carried immediate weight in the standings. Caribes won its sixth consecutive game and improved to a league-best 12–3, while defending champion Magallanes fell to 3–12.
Two brothers, two home runs, one decisive swing
Caribes built a 3–0 lead in the first inning when Romer Cuadrado hit a three-run homer. Magallanes answered with Thairo Estrada’s two-run shot in the third, before Cuadrado added an RBI single to restore a two-run advantage.
Eliézer Alfonzo Jr. then tied the game 4–4 with a two-run homer in the fourth. Magallanes moved ahead 5–4 in the top of the seventh, creating the stage for his younger brother.
Omar entered as a pinch hitter for Balbino Fuenmayor in the bottom half and faced reliever Andre Granillo with Gabriel González aboard. The left-handed batter drove a two-run homer out to turn the game around and put Caribes ahead for good.
Enderjer Sifontes earned the win, while Saúl Terán worked the ninth for his third save.
Alfonzo brothers repeat a unique LVBP feat
The brothers had already homered against each other in a Caribes–Magallanes game on November 19, 2025, also in Puerto La Cruz. According to LVBP historian Tony Flores, they are the first pair of brothers to achieve the opposing-home-run feat in two different games.
Edgar and Edgardo Alfonzo were the previous brothers to homer as opponents in one LVBP game, doing so for Leones del Caracas and Magallanes on November 16, 1996.
The latest chapter added another milestone to one of Venezuelan baseball’s best-known families. Their father, Eliézer Alfonzo, is the LVBP’s career home run leader and is part of the Magallanes coaching staff, meaning all three shared the field for the record-setting night.
For Caribes, the family story was also a pennant-race result. The club left the game with a two-game lead in the standings and the league’s longest active winning streak.
