Leones del Caracas overwhelmed Navegantes del Magallanes 10-1 on Saturday, October 24, in front of a record crowd at Estadio Monumental Simón Bolívar. The first meeting of the 2026-27 season between Venezuela’s fiercest baseball rivals turned into a one-sided finish after Leones scored all 10 of their runs from the fifth inning onward.

Caracas breaks open a tight rivalry game

Magallanes struck first on Tucupita Marcano’s RBI single in the third inning, but Leones took control in the fifth. Brainer Bonací delivered a two-run single that put Caracas ahead 3-1 after the hosts had tied the game on Leandro Cedeño’s groundout.

Caracas added four runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth. Pinch-hitter Wuilfredo Antúnez finished with three RBIs, while Lenyn Sosa went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer. Bonací had two hits and two RBIs after entering the game in a prolonged early-season slump.

The Magallanes bullpen struggled with its command, issuing seven of the team’s 10 walks. Dillon Tate took the loss after walking all three batters he faced, and each eventually scored.

Nic Swanson earned his first LVBP victory with five innings of one-run baseball. The Caracas starter allowed four hits and three walks, struck out four and worked with a defense that turned four double plays.

Historic crowd fills the Monumental

The packed stadium gave the rivalry another place in LVBP history. The league confirmed that Saturday’s attendance broke its record for a regular league game, previously set at the same ballpark during a Caracas-Magallanes matchup in November 2023.

The LVBP’s detailed game report listed 34,950 spectators, while a separate league attendance report listed 34,450. Both reports identified a new league record, although the conflicting exact figures had not been reconciled in the published accounts.

The result improved Leones to 3-6 and dropped Magallanes to 2-9. The rivals are scheduled to meet again on Sunday, October 25, this time at Estadio José Bernardo Pérez in Valencia.
