Bravos Sweep Leones After Nine-Walk Collapse in Caracas
Bravos de Margarita used nine walks and four scoreless bullpen innings to beat Leones del Caracas 9-2 and complete an LVBP sweep.

Bravos de Margarita turned nine walks into a 9-2 victory over Leones del Caracas on Friday, October 16, completing a two-game sweep at Estadio Monumental Simón Bolívar and moving to 2-1 in the opening week of the 2026-27 LVBP season.
Caracas led 2-0 after Gabriel Lino’s second-inning single brought home Aldrem Corredor and Wuilfredo Antúnez. Margarita answered with José Martínez’s sacrifice fly in the third, then took control when the Leones pitching staff lost the strike zone.
Nine walks open the door for Bravos
Bravos went ahead 4-2 in the fifth. Three consecutive walks by reliever Joan González helped force in the tying and go-ahead runs, and Diosbel Arias added another run with a ground ball. The decisive inning was less about hard contact than Margarita’s willingness to wait for strikes.
The visitors created separation late. Alexi Amarista’s double helped produce two runs in the seventh, and Bravos added three more in the eighth. Caracas issued nine walks in all, while its bullpen has now surrendered 15 of the club’s first 24 runs allowed this season.
Escobar and the bullpen close it out
Luis Escobar earned the win after allowing six hits and two runs, only one earned, over five innings. He walked two and struck out one. Carlos Suniaga, Will Changarotty, Claudio Custodio, Alfred Gutiérrez and Werner Leal combined for four scoreless innings behind him.
Carlos Pérez reached in all four of his plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and two runs. Amarista collected two hits and drove in a run, while Martínez finished with three RBIs despite not recording a hit.
Leandro Cedeño supplied three of Caracas’ nine hits, including a double, but the Leones grounded into three double plays and stranded seven runners. González took the loss without recording an out, charged with three earned runs.
The result completed a sharp road sweep for Margarita after Thursday’s 3-1 win. Bravos left Caracas at 2-1; Leones fell to 1-3 after dropping both games of their home-opening series.
