Athletics Hire Cam Castro as GM From World Series Champion Brewers
The Athletics hired Cam Castro as general manager, adding the Brewers player-development executive ahead of their planned Las Vegas move.

The Athletics have hired Cam Castro as general manager, pairing one of baseball’s fastest-rising player-development executives with new president of baseball operations Taylor Smith as the franchise prepares for its final season in West Sacramento and a planned 2028 move to Las Vegas.
- New role: Athletics general manager
- Previous club: Milwaukee Brewers
- Age: 36
- Background: Pitching development, player development and performance systems
Castro brings a player-development blueprint from Milwaukee
Castro arrives from the reigning World Series champion Brewers, where he served as senior vice president of player development and performance. He spent eight seasons with Milwaukee and oversaw the development strategies used throughout the minor-league system, along with high-performance and medical operations.
His rise began in 2019 as a Single-A pitching coach. Castro later worked as Milwaukee’s minor-league pitching coordinator, director of pitching development and vice president of player development before moving into the senior vice president role.
That pitching background is central to the Athletics’ decision. The club finished 64-98 in 2026 and enters the offseason needing more progress from a young pitching group. Smith described Castro as one of the game’s best development minds and said his experience building organizational systems would complement the existing front office.
A new front office for a franchise in transition
Castro will work beneath Smith, who was hired in October to lead baseball operations. Together they will guide a club that is scheduled to play its third and final season at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento in 2027 before opening its new Las Vegas ballpark in 2028.
The appointment also closes the Athletics’ general manager search after David Forst left by mutual agreement in August. Assistant general manager Dan Feinstein handled the role on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.
Before entering professional baseball, Castro coached at Defiance College and Lake Erie College and worked as a trainer at Driveline Baseball. He earned a bachelor’s degree in legal studies from Lake Erie and a master’s degree in sports management from Defiance.
“The A’s are a historic franchise with an incredible legacy,” Castro said in the club’s announcement. “I look forward to being a part of the next chapter of A’s baseball and developing a team, culture, and organization that our fans will be proud of.”
