TAIPEI, Taiwan — The CTBC Brothers stayed alive for the second straight game on Sunday, October 25, beating the Wei Chuan Dragons 4-3 at Taipei Dome to force a sixth game in the 2026 Taiwan Series.

Chiang Kun-yu delivered three hits, drove in the Brothers’ first two runs and scored the winner in the ninth inning. The victory cut Wei Chuan’s series lead to 3-2 after the Dragons had won the opening three games and moved within one victory of the championship.

The Brothers struck first in the second inning. Wang Wei-chen singled, advanced on a wild pitch and scored when Chiang lined a two-out single to left. A replay review confirmed Wang had beaten the throw home.

Chiang doubled the lead two innings later. After Sung Sheng-jui reached and stole second, the shortstop drove a double into right field for his second RBI hit of the night. Wei Chuan answered in the bottom half when Liu Chi-hung launched a solo home run off Nivaldo Rodríguez.

CTBC restored its two-run advantage in the seventh. Huang Wei-sheng walked, stole second and scored on Yueh Tung-hua’s double down the first-base line, ending John Gant’s start after 6 1/3 innings.

The Dragons responded immediately. Liu singled before Chang Cheng-yu and Kuo Tien-hsin produced consecutive hits against the Brothers’ bullpen, bringing home two runs and tying the game at 3-3.

Ninth-inning gamble keeps the Brothers alive

Chiang opened the ninth with his third hit, moved into scoring position and then aggressively took third. Huang followed with a fly ball to right field, and Chiang challenged the throw home. He slid in safely for the go-ahead run, with the call upheld after another replay review.

Félix Peña protected the one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth. He retired the Dragons in order, with Chiang fielding the final ground ball and throwing to first to complete a performance that earned him Game 5 MVP honors.

Peña was credited with the victory, while Wei Chuan closer Lin Kai-wei took the loss. The game drew a sellout crowd of 40,000 to Taipei Dome.

Taiwan Series moves to Game 6

Wei Chuan still needs one victory to claim the championship, but CTBC has shifted the pressure after facing a 3-0 deficit. The Brothers won Game 4 on Chan Tzu-hsien’s 11th-inning walk-off single, then survived another elimination game four days later following two typhoon-related postponements.

Game 6 is scheduled for Monday, October 26, at 3:05 p.m. local time at Taipei Dome. The Brothers are expected to start Mario Sánchez, while the Dragons plan to counter with Cristopher Mercedes. A CTBC win would force a decisive Game 7.
