Jefferson Rojas Homers Twice as Gigantes Beat Licey 7-1
Jefferson Rojas hit two home runs and collected three hits as Gigantes del Cibao beat Tigres del Licey 7-1 in LIDOM.

Jefferson Rojas hit two home runs and collected three hits as Gigantes del Cibao beat Tigres del Licey 7-1 on Saturday night at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal in Santo Domingo.
The 21-year-old infielder, ranked by MLB Pipeline as the New York Mets’ top prospect and No. 68 overall, supplied the defining performance in only his second game of the 2026-27 LIDOM season. Both home runs cleared the left-field wall, turning an early-season rivalry game into a showcase for one of the Dominican Republic’s most prominent young players.
Rojas attacks the first pitch
Rojas did not wait to settle into his first at-bat. He drove a first-pitch 92.4 mph sinker from Vladimir Gutiérrez over the wall in left field. In the seventh inning, he struck again against right-hander Luis Frías, staying on an off-speed pitch and sending his second homer of the night to left.
The two-homer game continued an extended power surge. Rojas finished the North American minor-league season with five home runs in his final 11 games between Double-A and Triple-A, then carried that form into winter ball.
Through his first two appearances for Gigantes, Rojas is 4-for-7 with two home runs, four runs scored, three RBIs, one walk and one stolen base. That production gives him a 2.054 OPS in the opening days of the LIDOM campaign.
A breakout season follows him to LIDOM
Rojas began 2026 with Double-A Knoxville in the Chicago Cubs organization before the Mets acquired him at the trade deadline in the deal that sent pitcher Clay Holmes and outfielder Tyrone Taylor to Chicago. He later reached Triple-A Syracuse for six games.
Across 126 minor-league games this season, the right-handed hitter batted .274 with a .338 on-base percentage and a .505 slugging percentage. He set career highs with 27 home runs and 93 RBIs, while adding 57 extra-base hits, 90 runs and 21 stolen bases.
Saturday’s performance gave Gigantes an emphatic road win over Licey and offered an early indication that Rojas’ improved power may remain a major factor during the Dominican winter season.
