Cody Bellinger of the New York Yankees and Pete Crow-Armstrong of the Chicago Cubs were named Major League Baseball’s 2026 Rawlings Platinum Glove Award winners on Friday, November 6, recognizing them as the top overall defenders in the American and National Leagues.

The two outfielders were selected from this season’s 20 Gold Glove winners through a combination of worldwide fan voting and an adjusted version of the SABR Defensive Index. Rawlings announced the results at the Gold Glove Award Ceremony at the Plaza Hotel in New York City.

Bellinger’s arm and range set the AL standard

Bellinger won the first Platinum Glove of his career after delivering an elite season in left field for the Yankees. He led all major-league left fielders with 21 Defensive Runs Saved and recorded six Outs Above Average.

His throwing arm became one of New York’s biggest defensive weapons. Bellinger averaged 93.3 mph on his throws, ranking in MLB’s 94th percentile, and finished with eight outfield assists. His 99.7 mph throw to cut down Ceddanne Rafaela at home plate on August 28 was the Yankees’ third-fastest tracked outfield assist since Statcast began recording the metric in 2015.

The 31-year-old had already earned his second career Gold Glove and his first since winning in right field with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2019. He also became the first Yankees left fielder to win a Gold Glove since Brett Gardner in 2016.

Crow-Armstrong caps a historic defensive season

Crow-Armstrong’s Platinum Glove followed one of the strongest all-around defensive seasons of the Statcast era. The Cubs center fielder led all MLB position players with 26 Outs Above Average and a plus-26 Fielding Run Value.

His Fielding Run Value established a single-season record for an outfielder since Statcast began tracking the statistic in 2016. Crow-Armstrong’s 26 Outs Above Average also tied Byron Buxton’s 2017 mark for the highest total by an outfielder in that span.

The 24-year-old won his second consecutive Gold Glove after setting the standard for a Cubs defense that led MLB with plus-72 Outs Above Average and plus-72 Fielding Run Value. Those were both team records for the Statcast era.

Crow-Armstrong paired that defense with a 40-homer, 40-steal offensive season, becoming the seventh player in major-league history to reach both marks in the same year.

Cubs and Blue Jays earn team honors

Rawlings also named the Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays as the 2026 Team Defense Award winners. The team awards use an aggregated SABR Defensive Index that combines Statcast, Sports Info Solutions, STATS Perform and traditional defensive data.

Bellinger and Crow-Armstrong succeed 2025 Platinum Glove winners Bobby Witt Jr. and Fernando Tatis Jr. Their trophies will be presented during the 2027 regular season.
