Geraldo Perdomo Drives In Four as Diamondbacks Close on Final NL Wild Card
Geraldo Perdomo drove in four as Arizona beat San Diego 11–4 on September 25, moving within one game of Philadelphia for the final NL wild-card berth.

Geraldo Perdomo drove in four runs as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Diego Padres 11–4 at Petco Park on Friday, September 25, keeping their bid for the National League’s final wild-card berth alive. Arizona moved to within one game of Philadelphia with two games left in the regular season.
Perdomo tripled home a run in the first inning, when the Diamondbacks jumped ahead 3–0. In the sixth, with the bases loaded, he drove a double off the center-field wall to bring all three runners home. The hit turned a strong offensive start into a decisive lead.
Arizona’s power keeps the pressure on Philadelphia
Lars Nootbaar homered on Casey Mize’s first pitch, Jordan Lawlar went deep in the second and Nolan Arenado hit a two-run homer in the third. Arenado’s shot was his 30th of the season. Arizona had a 6–2 lead after three innings and finished with 11 runs against a Padres club that had clinched a postseason berth the night before.
Brandon Pfaadt worked 7⅔ innings for Arizona, allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out seven. The victory was his third against San Diego this season.
The Diamondbacks still need help: Philadelphia holds the last NL playoff position with two games remaining. Friday’s loss also prevented the Padres from securing the National League’s top wild-card seed and home-field advantage in the opening round. For Arizona, the margin for error is gone, but the race is still open.
