William Contreras delivered three run-scoring hits, including a 436-foot game-tying home run, as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied past the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-4 on Monday night at American Family Field. The win gave Milwaukee a 2-0 lead in the National League Championship Series before the matchup shifts to Los Angeles.

The Brewers erased three separate deficits, then handed the game to a bullpen that retired all 15 Dodgers it faced. Contreras finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, tying the game in the fifth inning and driving in the go-ahead run in the sixth.

Contreras answers every Dodgers lead

Los Angeles opened the scoring on Teoscar Hernández’s first-inning sacrifice fly, but Contreras immediately answered with an RBI single against Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

The Dodgers moved ahead again in the third when a Logan Henderson throwing error allowed Tommy Edman to score. Milwaukee responded after Jake Bauers worked a 12-pitch walk, with Christian Yelich lining a two-run single to center for a 3-2 advantage.

Yamamoto was removed after only 2⅔ innings, the shortest postseason start of his career. The right-hander allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while throwing 75 pitches.

Los Angeles reclaimed a 4-3 lead in the fifth without a run-scoring hit. Another Henderson throwing error brought Kyle Tucker home before Freddie Freeman added a sacrifice fly.

Contreras changed the game again in the bottom half, driving a Kris Bubic pitch 436 feet to straightaway center for his third home run of the postseason. One inning later, he singled to left off Brock Stewart to score David Hamilton and put Milwaukee ahead for good.

Brewers bullpen makes postseason history

Milwaukee’s relievers were perfect after Henderson departed. Dustin May, JoJo Romero, Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby combined for five flawless innings, the most perfect innings by a bullpen in a single postseason game in MLB history.

Romero earned the win with a clean sixth inning, while Ashby recorded the final five outs for his first postseason save. The bullpen struck out seven of the 15 batters it faced.

Brice Turang and Bauers added RBI singles in the eighth to extend the lead to 7-4. The Dodgers finished without a run-scoring hit; their four runs came on two sacrifice flies and two Milwaukee throwing errors.

Teams taking a 2-0 lead in a best-of-seven postseason series have advanced 79 times in 95 opportunities. The Brewers will try to push the two-time defending champions closer to elimination when Game 3 is played Wednesday night in Los Angeles.
