Haruto Takahashi Throws Eight Scoreless, Drives In Run as Hanshin Extends Lead
Haruto Takahashi threw eight scoreless innings and drove in a run as Hanshin beat Yakult 5-0 and moved two games clear in the Central League.

Haruto Takahashi delivered eight scoreless innings and added an RBI single as the Hanshin Tigers beat the Tokyo Yakult Swallows 5-0 on Wednesday night at Koshien Stadium, strengthening their grip on first place in the Central League.
Takahashi held Yakult to four hits, struck out six and did not issue a walk over 107 pitches. The left-hander improved to 16-3, while Hanshin moved to 77-59-1 and opened a two-game lead over the idle Yomiuri Giants.
Takahashi controls the game from the mound
Yakult put two runners aboard in the opening inning, but Takahashi escaped without damage and settled into a dominant rhythm. He allowed only two more hits across his final seven innings and retired the final seven batters he faced.
The Swallows never advanced a runner beyond second base. Takahashi combined command with efficiency, recording six strikeouts without a walk and keeping Hanshin in control despite two errors behind him.
Daichi Kudo completed the shutout with a perfect ninth inning, striking out two. Hanshin pitching allowed four hits in total and faced only 32 batters.
Oyama and Sato supply the power
Yusuke Oyama opened the scoring with his 19th home run of the season, a solo shot off Yasunobu Okugawa in the second inning. Shota Morishita doubled home Takumu Nakano in the third to make it 2-0.
Takahashi helped himself in the seventh, lining a two-out RBI single to left after a sacrifice bunt moved a runner into scoring position. It was the pitcher’s only hit in three at-bats and gave Hanshin extra breathing room.
Teruaki Sato finished the scoring in the eighth with his 38th home run, a two-run drive that followed Morishita’s third hit of the night. Hanshin collected 12 hits, with Morishita and Kanta Takadera recording three apiece.
Hanshin widens Central League advantage
The victory gave Hanshin a 77-59-1 record and moved the Tigers two games ahead of Yomiuri, which did not play Wednesday. The timing makes Thursday’s meeting between the Tigers and Giants at Koshien especially significant in the closing days of the regular season.
Takahashi’s 16th win gave Hanshin exactly the type of two-way performance it needed before that matchup: eight shutout innings on the mound, a run driven in at the plate and a larger cushion at the top of the league.
