Therwil Flyers Beat Zürich in Game 5 to Win Third Straight Swiss Title
Therwil Flyers beat Zürich Barracudas 4-1 in Game 5 to win the 2026 Swiss Baseball Championship, their third consecutive national title.

Therwil Flyers defeated Zürich Barracudas 4-1 in a decisive Game 5 on Saturday, September 19, to win the 2026 Swiss Baseball Championship. The victory at Känelmatt completed a 3-2 series win and gave the Flyers their third consecutive national title.
Therwil never led the final by more than one game, and each time the Barracudas answered, the champions found a way to regain control. Their three wins came by scores of 2-1, 3-2 and 4-1 — a sequence of close, pressure-filled victories that carried them to another championship.
A Five-Game Final Swings Back and Forth
The series opened in Therwil on September 5 with the Flyers edging Zürich 2-1. The Barracudas responded one day later, winning 4-0 to send the final to Zürich tied at one game apiece.
Therwil moved within one win of the title by taking Game 3, 3-2, on September 12. Once again, Zürich refused to let the series end. The Barracudas produced the most lopsided result of the final in Game 4, an 11-2 victory that forced the championship back to Therwil for a winner-take-all game.
The aggregate numbers told one story: Zürich outscored Therwil 19-11 across the five games. The series result told another. The Flyers won all three close games, held the Barracudas to one or two runs in each victory and saved their most complete response for the deciding contest.
Flyers Deliver in the Decider
With the season reduced to one game, Therwil held Zürich to a single run and won 4-1. It was the Flyers’ largest margin of victory in the series and the third time they kept the Barracudas to two runs or fewer.
The title confirmed Therwil’s place at the top of Swiss baseball after a final that demanded far more than regular-season form. Zürich’s two emphatic victories repeatedly shifted the momentum, but the Flyers answered every defeat with a win.
Therwil had already won the 2024 and 2025 championships. The 2026 victory extended that run to three straight titles and, following the club’s 17th championship last season, marked the 18th Swiss crown in Flyers history.
Therwil’s Championship Standard Holds
The decisive result also completed another successful season for a club with one of the deepest championship traditions in European baseball. Therwil entered the final as the defending champion, but Zürich pushed the series to its maximum distance and forced the Flyers to win under the pressure of a final game.
That made the manner of the championship as important as the streak itself. Therwil did not dominate the series on the scoreboard. Instead, the Flyers repeatedly executed when the margin was smallest, turning three low-scoring games into three wins.
For Zürich, the 11-2 victory in Game 4 proved the Barracudas had enough offense to extend the champions. For Therwil, the 4-1 answer in Game 5 showed why the title remained in Basel-Landschaft.
After five games, two momentum swings and one final test at home, the Swiss championship still belongs to the Therwil Flyers.
