Toros de Tijuana Win 2026 LMB Championship With Game 6 Shutout
Toros de Tijuana shut out Olmecas de Tabasco 2-0 in Game 6 to win the 2026 Serie del Rey and the third LMB championship in franchise history.

Toros de Tijuana are the 2026 Liga Mexicana de Beisbol champions after shutting out the Olmecas de Tabasco 2-0 in Game 6 of the Serie del Rey on Tuesday night at Toros Mobil Park, closing the championship series four games to two.
Gilberto Celestino delivered the only runs Tijuana needed with a two-out, two-run single in the fifth inning, while Adonis Medina and four relievers combined on a three-hit shutout. The title is the third in Toros history, following championships in 2017 and 2021.
Celestino breaks open a scoreless Game 6
Game 6 developed into the kind of low-scoring final in which one swing could decide an entire season. Medina and Olmecas starter Jeremy Rhoades traded zeroes through four innings before Tijuana finally created separation in the bottom of the fifth.
Junior Lake singled with one out and Jonathan Guzmán followed with another hit before stealing second. With two outs, Celestino singled through center field to score both runners and give the Toros a 2-0 lead.
Those two runs held up for the rest of the night. Medina completed five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits without a walk while striking out five. He finished the postseason 3-0 and gave Tijuana exactly the start it needed with the championship in reach.
Tijuana bullpen finishes a three-hit shutout
Once Medina left, the Toros bullpen never allowed Tabasco to change the direction of the game. Adbert Alzolay, Jonathan Aro and Roel Ramírez each worked a scoreless inning before Brett de Geus handled the ninth.
The Olmecas put traffic on the bases in their final turn at bat, but de Geus recorded the final outs to finish the combined shutout and trigger the championship celebration in Tijuana.
The pitching performance was a fitting finish for a Toros team that had leaned heavily on run prevention throughout the postseason. Tabasco managed only three hits in the deciding game and never scored after Tijuana took the lead.
Toros complete comeback from Game 1 defeat
Tijuana’s championship did not begin smoothly. The Olmecas won the opening game of the Serie del Rey 7-1, but the Toros answered with a 13-2 victory in Game 2 and eventually took control of the series.
A pivotal 6-5 comeback victory in Game 5 sent Tijuana home with a 3-2 series advantage and an opportunity to finish the season in front of its own crowd. One night later, the Toros converted that opportunity into their third LMB championship.
Hernán Pérez was selected as the Serie del Rey Most Valuable Player. The veteran went 7-for-22 in the championship series with a home run, two runs scored and five RBIs.
Third LMB title for Toros de Tijuana
The 2026 crown adds another championship to one of the LMB’s most successful recent runs. Tijuana previously won the league in 2017 and 2021 and entered this postseason after finishing the regular season 60-31, the best record in the Zona Norte.
For the Olmecas, the defeat ended a breakthrough postseason that carried Tabasco back to the league’s championship stage after a 33-year absence. For Tijuana, however, the final night belonged to pitching, one timely hit and another trophy.
