The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched their fifth consecutive National League West title on Thursday, September 17, beating the Cincinnati Reds 8-2 at Great American Ball Park behind Kyle Tucker’s four-hit performance.

Los Angeles improved to 93-60 and secured its 13th division championship in 14 seasons. The Dodgers had already guaranteed a postseason berth earlier in the week, but Thursday’s win officially settled the NL West and kept them in the race for a top-two seed in the National League.

Kyle Tucker drives the clinching win

Tucker set the tone immediately. The Dodgers right fielder hit a two-run home run off Brady Singer in the first inning, then added an RBI double in the second as Los Angeles built an early lead.

He finished 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and three RBIs, ending the afternoon a triple short of the cycle. Tucker’s first-inning homer was his 16th of the season.

Freddie Freeman added a sacrifice fly in the second inning before Los Angeles broke the game open with three more runs in the fourth. Max Muncy doubled home two and rookie Josue De Paula followed with an RBI single to make it 7-0.

Dodgers pitching keeps Cincinnati quiet

Justin Wrobleski worked three perfect innings in his first start since September 6, striking out three. Wrobleski and Blake Treinen combined to retire Cincinnati’s first 11 hitters before Sal Stewart homered for the Reds.

Landon Knack then covered four scoreless innings and earned the win. Miguel Rojas added a ninth-inning solo home run to complete the scoring for Los Angeles.

NL West secured, but seeding race continues

The division title extends one of baseball’s most sustained runs of regular-season dominance. Los Angeles has now won the NL West in 13 of the past 14 seasons, including five straight, while reaching the postseason for a 14th consecutive year.

The Dodgers’ work before October is not finished. They remain behind Milwaukee in the race for the National League’s best record and are also trying to protect a top-two seed, which would provide a first-round bye.

For now, however, the first objective is complete: the NL West again belongs to Los Angeles.
