Genki Ishigaki Hits 153 km/h in Scoreless NPB Debut for Chiba Lotte Marines
Genki Ishigaki reached 153 km/h and threw a scoreless first inning in his NPB debut for the Chiba Lotte Marines against Rakuten.

Chiba Lotte Marines rookie Genki Ishigaki made his NPB debut Thursday night at ZOZO Marine Stadium, working a scoreless first inning and reaching 153 km/h (95.1 mph) against the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles.
The 19-year-old right-hander, Chiba Lotte’s first-round draft pick, needed 16 pitches in his first appearance on Japan’s top stage. He allowed no hits, walked one and struck out one before leaving after the opening inning as planned.
Ishigaki attacks with velocity in first NPB inning
Ishigaki opened his debut by challenging Daisuke Nakashima with three straight fastballs, finishing the at-bat with a flyout on a 153 km/h heater. He then walked Rui Soyama after a full-count battle, but recovered against the next hitter.
Facing Luke McCasker, Ishigaki recorded his first NPB strikeout on a called strike. Soyama broke for second on the pitch, but catcher Toshiya Sato threw him out, turning the play into an inning-ending strikeout double play.
The sequence meant Ishigaki faced only three batters despite issuing the walk. His fastball repeatedly sat at 150 km/h or better, providing an immediate glimpse of the power arsenal that made him one of Japan’s most closely watched young pitchers.
Marines have a long-term development plan
Manager Saburo Ohmura said after the game that the one-inning assignment was intentional. Ishigaki had been used in short outings in the farm system, and the Marines plan to build his workload gradually rather than push him immediately into a conventional starting role.
Ohmura pointed to Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s early-career development with Orix as a possible model: gaining experience in shorter major-league assignments before eventually growing into a larger role.
Ishigaki entered Thursday with 18 farm appearances covering 20 innings. Although his 7.20 ERA reflected uneven results, he had struck out 32 hitters in those 20 innings, underscoring the swing-and-miss potential behind his promotion.
Rakuten wins despite Ishigaki’s clean debut
Chiba Lotte gave its rookie an immediate lead when Koki Yamaguchi hit his 31st home run in the bottom of the first, but Rakuten controlled the rest of the night. The Golden Eagles won 5-1 behind 8 2/3 innings of one-run pitching from Tatsuki Koja.
For the Marines, the result dropped them to 58-67-3. The more significant long-term development was Ishigaki’s first exposure to NPB hitters — and a debut inning in which his velocity translated immediately.
