The Bonn Capitals are one victory away from the 2026 German baseball championship after beating the Guggenberger Legionäre Regensburg 4-2 on Saturday, September 19, to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five Deutsche Baseball Liga final.

Bonn trailed early in Regensburg before taking control with a four-run sixth inning. McCoy Pearce tied the game with an RBI double, and Daniel Lamb-Hunt immediately changed the series with a three-run home run that put the Capitals ahead 4-1.

Lamb-Hunt Turns Game 2 With One Swing

Regensburg had struck first in the third inning. Norwin Staps tripled and scored after Alexander Schmidt put a bunt in play, giving the Legionäre a 1-0 lead and an opportunity to level the championship series.

That advantage held until the sixth. Pearce’s run-scoring double brought Bonn even before Lamb-Hunt drove a three-run homer to give the Capitals their first lead of the afternoon.

Schmidt answered with a solo home run in the eighth to cut the deficit to 4-2, but Bonn did not allow another run.

Niklas Rimmel Puts Bonn on Brink of Championship

Niklas Rimmel delivered eight innings for the Capitals, allowing four hits, two runs and one walk while striking out five. His outing kept Regensburg from building on its early lead and gave Bonn enough time for the decisive sixth-inning rally.

The result follows Bonn’s 4-1 win in the opening game of the final and leaves the Capitals with three chances to secure the championship. Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, at 14:00 in Regensburg.

A victory would complete a 3-0 sweep and give Bonn the fourth German championship in club history, following titles in 2018, 2022 and 2024. Regensburg must win Sunday to extend the series.
