Guggenberger Legionäre Rally Past Bonn 9-5 to Keep German Championship Series Alive
Guggenberger Legionäre rally for five runs in the eighth to beat Bonn Capitals 9-5 and cut the 2026 DBL Final deficit to 2-1.

Guggenberger Legionäre Regensburg kept their German championship hopes alive on Sunday, September 20, rallying for five runs in the eighth inning to beat the Bonn Capitals 9-5 at Armin-Wolf-Arena. The victory cut Bonn’s lead in the best-of-five Deutsche Baseball Liga final to 2-1 and sends the series back to Bonn for Game 4 next Saturday.
Regensburg turns the game around late
With more than 1,000 spectators in Regensburg, the Legionäre struck first through Alex Schmidt before Bonn answered with a solo home run in the second inning. Starting pitchers Christian Pedrol and Titus von Kapff then kept both offenses quiet through the middle innings.
Nino Sacasa changed the game in the fifth with a two-run home run that pushed Regensburg back in front. Devon Ramirez added another run after an Elias von Garßen double, giving the home side a 4-1 advantage.
Bonn refused to let the series end quietly. Daniel Lamb-Hunt homered as the Capitals cut the deficit to one, then two more runs in the eighth against reliever Nico Antoine put Bonn ahead 5-4 and within six outs of the German title.
Five-run eighth keeps the Legionäre alive
Regensburg responded immediately. The Legionäre erupted for five runs in the bottom of the eighth, turning a one-run deficit into a 9-5 lead and completely changing the direction of the game. Quentin Moulin then finished the job on the mound to secure Regensburg’s first win of the championship series.
The comeback was especially significant after Bonn won the first two games of the final, 4-1 and 4-2. The Capitals entered Sunday with a chance to complete a sweep and claim their fourth German championship, but Regensburg’s late rally ensured the title will now be decided in Bonn.
DBL Final returns to Bonn
Bonn still leads the series 2-1 and needs one more victory to win the championship. Game 4 is scheduled for Saturday, September 26 at 14:00 at Rheinaue Dedecke-Field. If Regensburg wins again to level the series, a decisive Game 5 will also be played in Bonn.
For the Legionäre, Sunday’s comeback extends a second consecutive trip to the German championship series and gives them another chance to pursue their first title since 2013. For Bonn, the task remains unchanged: one more win secures the 2026 Deutsche Baseball Liga championship.
