How the Cy Young Award is decided
The Cy Young Award goes to the best pitcher in each league. It is voted on by members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA), two writers per MLB city, who cast their ballots at the end of the regular season. Postseason performances do not count. The winners are announced in November.
What these leaderboards show
Pitchers are ranked by ERA among those with at least one inning pitched per team game (162 innings this season), the official MLB qualification for the ERA title. Voters also weigh strikeouts, innings, WHIP and advanced metrics, so the ERA leader does not automatically win the award.
